San Antonio native Rylie Rodriguez discovered early on that acting — not singing or dancing — was her true passion. Now 22, the actress is gaining national attention for her role in Landman, a Paramount+ drama set in the high-stakes world of the West Texas oil industry.
Rodriguez first stepped onstage as a child while enrolled in a theater class and immediately felt a connection to performing. Although she previously studied dance and vocal performance, acting stood out.
“Dancing and singing just weren’t my thing,” Rodriguez said. “Theater was very exciting to me. It was something new.”
While studying at Performing Arts San Antonio, Rodriguez auditioned for a short film produced by students from the University of Southern California. It was her first-ever audition, and she landed the role — an opportunity that took her to Los Angeles for her screen debut and solidified her desire to pursue on-screen acting.
“I knew from then on that I wanted to dedicate myself to the craft,” she said.
That commitment has now led to her first major televi- sion role in Landman. The series follows roughnecks and powerful executives navigating an economic boom in West Texas. A graduate of North East School of the Arts, Rodriguez joined the cast near the end of the audition process after producers expanded the Miller family storyline to include a second daughter. In the series, Rodriguez plays the youngest daughter of characters portrayed by Demi Moore and Jon Hamm. In recognition of her rising career, Rodriguez has been invited to visit Cuero by Mayor Emil Garza Jr. . She is scheduled to arrive Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. at Cuero City Hall. During her visit, Rodriguez will address the Mayors Youth Council, tour the city and participate in a hayride through Cueros Christmas in the Park. City ofScials said the visit is intended to inspire local youth and celebrate the success of a young Texas actress making her mark in the entertainment industry.
