Cuero Regional Hospital’s Information Technology Department identified anomalies within its electronic network, and took its record system offline Dec. 16, officials said in a press release.
But in a later press release issued the same day the action was first announced on Dec. 19, officials said the investigation was complete and no data breach was discovered. The record system was restored to the network at that time.
Out of an “abundance of caution,” the electronic medical record (EMR) was shut down for the clinics and hospital setting, removed from the network, and an investigation was immediately initiated., according to the first hospital press release.
Officials said there was no evidence that patient care, quality, or the continuum of care has been affected. The hospital implemented established downtime protocols, which are designed for situations when electronic systems are unavailable. Medical records are being completed in accordance with these protocols to ensure safe, effective, and uninterrupted care.
“This action was taken proactively to protect the integrity of our systems, and the information entrusted to us,” said Lynn Falcone, CEO. “Our staff remained focused on quality, safe, patient care.”
The hospital operated under downtime procedures while the investigation was ongoing, officials saidd Officials said they appreciated the patience and understanding of patients, families, and the community as staff continued to deliver high-quality care without the use of electronic records.
