2025 Spring Sports highlights

The 2025 spring season showcased perseverance, growth, and standout moments across all Wildcat and Kitty Kat athletic programs. From recordsetting performances to hard-fought district battles, each team contributed to a memorable year.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team finished the season with an 8–16 record. One of the season’s early highlights came in preseason play when the Wildcats edged Falls City, 52–49. In district action, the Wildcats earned a sweep over Skidmore-Tynan with wins of 47–42 and 41–31. The team faced tough opponents in Kenedy, Refugio, Port Aransas, and Three Rivers, and split games with Woodsboro and Pettus. Individual success capped the season as Ryan Knostman and Brayden Knostman were both named First Team All-District, recognizing their leadership and consistency throughout the year.

The Kitty Kat Basketball team enjoyed a strong season, finishing fourth overall in district with a 9–6 record and posting an impressive 20–14 mark overall. Their playoff run ended in a tightly contested bidistrict matchup, falling to Agua Dulce by a narrow 36–34 margin. The team was well represented in postseason honors, with Laynie Boyd, Sydnie Krueger, and Nina Villarreal earning First Team All-District recognition. Palyn Koopmann was named Newcomer of the Year, highlighting the depth and future promise of the program.

Powerlifting was one of the standout programs of the spring for both the boys and girls teams. On the state stage, Jonathan Guerrero set records in the 132-pound classification for both squat and total pounds, while Rylan Rau etched his name into the record books by setting the state bench press record in the 242-pound division. The girls powerlifting team also had an impressive showing, with Zoe Rodriguez, Mariah Alvarez, Briana Cox, and Allie Geffert advancing to regional competition. Together, their stellar performances made powerlifting one of the most exceptional and successful programs of the year.

The Kitty Kat softball team showed resilience throughout the season, finishing 5–11 overall and 1–9 in district play. The highlight of the year came in a high-scoring victory over the Pettus Lady Eagles, 33–18. Other notable wins included victories over Stockdale (6–5), Ben Bolt (8–7), Cole (13–11), and a dramatic 22–21 nailbiter against Kenedy. The season featured steady improvement and memorable moments that showcased the team’s determination.

In Track and Field, the Wildcat and Kitty Kat athletes made a strong showing at regional competition, with four athletes earning medals. Ryan Knostman captured a bronze medal in discus, as did Palyn Koopmann in the 300-meter hurdles and Hayle Russell in pole vault. Claire Person advanced to the state meet after earning a silver medal in triple jump at regionals, capping off an excellent postseason for the track program.

The Wildcats baseball team finished the season 2–13 overall and 0–6 in district play. Both wins came in close contests, defeating Victoria Homeschool 5–3 and Refugio 5–3.

Statistical leaders for the season included Gunner Mungia, Randen Zuniga, and Ezekiel Munoz. Mungia led the team with eight stolen bases and posted an earned run average of 11.12. Zuniga paced the Wildcats with 14 hits and seven runs, while also leading in batting average (.500) and onbase percentage (.576). Munoz drove in a team-high six runs batted in.

The golf program was a major highlight of the spring season, with both the boys and girls teams advancing to regional competition after placing second in district play. Sydnie Krueger served as captain of the girls team, while Cameron Willis led the boys. Willis earned an individual silver medal by finishing second in district play. At district, the Wildcats narrowly missed the district championship, falling to Port Aransas by just four strokes.
