Post–New Year’s celebrations involving fireworks resulted in only one reported incident on Jan.2, according to local officials.
A small grass fire was sparked by a fountain- type firework that had been set off in a grassy area. The fire started in a residential area in the 1200 block of Hwy. 87 south of Cuero.
Emergency Management Coordinator Billy Jordan said residents were able to contain and extinguish the fire before fire crews arrived, preventing it from spreading or causing damage to nearby property. No injuries

Officials said the incident serves as a reminder for residents to use fireworks responsibly and to avoid lighting them in dry or grassy areas, even after holiday celebrations have concluded.

Although the holidays have ended, officials noted that unused fireworks may still be present in homes.
