A spirit of generosity and togetherness filled the community recently as local volunteers hosted a special gathering dedicated to honoring and serving senior citizens on Dec. 30 at the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department, according to organizers.
The six-hour event welcomed about 25 people for an afternoon of “fellowship, fun, and care.,” the organizers said. Guests were treated to a hearty homemade meal that included beef stew, cornbread and crackers, a meat and cheese tray, and a variety of desserts. Laughter and conversation flowed freely as friends and neighbors shared a warm meal together.

Games and bingo were a highlight of the afternoon. Bingo winners received between three and five gift certificates donated by various local businesses. Every attendee also received two additional gift certificates, each valued at approximately $20, ensuring no one left empty-handed. In addition, blankets were distributed, and each guest was given a to-go meal to enjoy later.
The outreach extended beyond the event itself. Once the gathering concluded, volunteers boxed up nearly 30 additional meals and delivered them to homebound residents at the local housing authority as well as others throughout town who were unable to attend.
Organizers described the day as deeply meaningful, emphasizing that the event was about more than food and prizes—it was about connection, compassion, and community. “Sharing a hot meal and the Love of Jesus with the community was one of the most fulfilling days of our lives.” stated Miranda Rohan, the coordinator of the event.
The successful event stands as a reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together to serve one another with kindness and purpose.
