Message from the Mayor

My Fellow Cueroites: Happy Belated New Year! 2026 is in full swing, praying for the Good Lord to provide many blessings for the citizens of Cuero.

The end of 2025 was spent relaxing and rejuvenating myself for the new year, I am excited about prospective job opportunities forecasted for early 2026, more to come. The Cuero Police Department is still accepting citizen applications for the 4th Citizens Police Academy, Please go by the Police Department and pick up an application, if you are not sure about the course, attend a few meetings and decide if you want to continue. Currently this year’s academy is in danger of being cancelled due to lack of applications. Cancellation would be a missed opportunity for the City of Cuero. The Citizen’s Police Academy has graduated 30 alumni, which assist the Police Department by providing volunteer hours in non-police tasks.

The city council receivee an update on the City Comprehensive plan currently being researched and written, at this month’s Jan. 12 meeting.

The Cuero Gobbler baseball season begins next week. Please support our high school kids by attending a game or two and rooting for the team, for Cuero.

Shout out to Ms. Jeni Garrett and the Cuero Gobbler Baseball booster club for preparing the field and the facilities at the baseball field across from Cuero Lube and Tire for this year’s season.

Thank you to all the volunteers, organizations and businesses, which supported Christmas in the Park, the continuance and operation of the event rely solely on donations, volunteers’ man the Santa House and collect donations. City crews are busy taking down and storing the fixtures, which number in the hundreds. Thank you to the crew. The first of many meetings to plan this year’s Fourth of July celebration will be held towards the end of January. This year our Nation celebrates its 250th birthday.

Do you know the difference between public comments and a public hearing at the city council meeting?

The public comments section on the council agenda is an opportunity for the public to address council and/or concerns not on the agenda, it is limited to 2 minutes per House Bill 3636. Comments are limited to: Council members are not obligated to respond; however, they may take notes for future reference.

Public hearing: It is a formal meeting where local government discusses and gets input on important issues like budgets, zoning, or new laws (ordinances) before making final decisions, allowing residents to speak, often with time limits, and typically held at City Hall, sometimes in a hybrid format, with agendas posted in advance. These sessions are crucial for civic engagement and are governed by open meeting laws, requiring public notice and accessibility. Have an awesome week, morme to follow!
