RWOYA celebrates 60 Years

Republican Women of the Yoakum Area members began the New Year with enthusiasm and focus on plans to support deliver its charter and mission statement.

The January meeting always begins with an organizational business and budget adoption meeting. Under the newly elected President, Cheryl Thompson- Draper, committee chairs were reported on plans for events and projects for the coming year, including a candidate forum for federal, state, and district candidates on Feb. 7, a candidate forum for local candidates on Feb. 11, and 60th year celebration of RWOYA on July 18.

Outgoing President, Laura Wauson ,was recognized and applauded for her outstanding leadership in 2025.

Candidates from DeWitt County, Nancy Hosek, (Justice of the Peace) and Carl Smith (County Commissioner spoke briefly about their campaigns and plans for the offices.

RWOYA meets the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. at the Yoakum Community Center, 105 Huck St. in Yoakum. Members come from Lavaca, Gonzales, and DeWitt counties. A free will donation lunch is served. Visitors are always welcomed.
