The Cuero Gobbler and Lady Gobbler golf teams opened their 2026 season in impressive fashion on Jan. 20, competing at the Yoakum Kick Off Classic against a strong field of area programs.
Both teams showed poise and depth, highlighted by individual medalists and solid team finishes to start the spring schedule on a positive note.
The Lady Gobblers delivered a standout performance, capturing first place overall with a team score of 418. Cuero’s consistency across the lineup proved to be the difference, as the team placed two golfers at the top of the individual leaderboard and maintained steady scoring throughout the round.
Leading the way was Cat Chilek, who earned 1st place medalist honors with an outstanding round of 92. Chilek demonstrated strong course management and confidence throughout the day, setting the pace for her teammates. Close behind was Julia Aleman, who posted a 93 to claim 2nd place medalist, giving Cuero a one-two finish individually and solidifying the Lady Gobblers’ dominant showing.
Additional scoring for Cuero came from Jewelee Arriaga, who finished with a 109, followed by Lilah Hardy with a 124, and Katelyn Daughtery, who scored a 133. Each golfer contributed valuable strokes to the team total, balancing out the Lady Gobbler roster early in the season.
On the boys’ side, the Cuero Gobblers placed fourth overall with a team score of 384, competing against a competitive field that featured several seasoned squads. The Gobblers were led by Landon Crain, who turned in a strong round of 92, setting the tone for the team. Caleb Keller followed closely with a 94, while Stran Gaitan contributed a 98 to the overall score.
Rounding out the scoring lineup were Ace Arroyo, who posted a 100, and Cannon Wilson, who finished with a 120. The Gobblers showed glimpses of strong play and will look to continue improving as the season progresses and tournament experience builds.
Both Cuero golf teams demonstrated promising potential in their season opener, combining individual success with competitive team results. With a championship performance from the Lady Gobblers and a solid showing from the Gobblers, Cuero golf is off to a strong start and will look to carry that momentum into upcoming tournaments. Next up for the golf teams is the Goliad Scramble on January 28 in Goliad.
