GOD first...Heavenly Father, we make excuses for our laziness when we fail to see someone in need for just a little kindness or maybe a little help. We tend to walk away, avoid contact, or not take the time to listen. Lord, if You did that to us, we would never be in Your grace and never listen to the prayers we offer. Thankfully, Your Amazing Grace is always there for us. Whenever we ask, our prayers are in the hands of our loving Jesus Christ as we pray in His name. Amen. Pray for those who are in ill, suffering, grieving, or are in harms’ way.

Joke Time: An old couple was in a nursing home facing each other. The old man in a wheelchair and she was leaning on a walker. The old man confesses, “I was unfaithful to you once with some redhead in the men’s room of a pool hall in 1951. I was drunk!” The old woman responded, “That was me. You old coot!”

Here, we are almost at the end of January and by next month, farmers around here are already getting ready to plant corn. The fields are ready for planting and by some, we still don’t have the moisture. Usually, by George Washington’ Birthday, some had already planted. The low temps we have already had, may cause farmers to plant a little deeper and pack the dirt over the seed and wait for rain. Last year, by the first of March, you could see corn poking out of the soil enough to make out where the rows are of growing corn. There are so many factors to consider when farming. Either you are a good farmer and know what you are doing, or you are a damned fool. Heard that a lot. It’s a big crap shoot and if you aren’t prepared, you lose. One farmer, last year, harvested his wheat, planted cotton in the wheat stubbles as soon as he could and still made a good cotton crop too. That’s how hard work and smarts makes or breaks a farmer and a lot of luck doesn’t hurt either.

The last week of January, at the FFA Stock Show in Nordheim, the weather is predicted to be cold like last weekend. We have had good weather in the past and either way, the show must go on. Put on your long johns, wrap up in a big coat, and come with us to help support the students who have worked really hard to make it another success. With the help of parents, teachers, neighbors, judges, buyers, donors, and workers, the plans are in place for an excellent event.

I went by the St. Paul Lutheran Parish Hall this past Thursday and made a visit to see all the SPY Club kids enjoying their weekly sessions with Pastor Christine and helpers. This week they were being told about Abraham and Sara in their old age and how God blessed them with a child. These were children from ages of K thru 5th grade who came from school at 3:30 to 5 p.m. to enjoy the story. Enjoyed those little children as they showed a rambunctious attention in participating in walking with Abraham. I need to go by there more often as it does my heart good to see such enthusiasm and joy in the faces of those little ones. Even sang them a song they never heard before.

Kaffee Klatch was blessed with 17 people in the group of coffee drinkers this past week. There was a lot of laughter, good natured fun, information, and goodies to keep conversations alive for two hours. They didn’t all drink coffee. Some tea totalers brought their own water. One is a Dr. Pepper addict. You might say there was a diverse group of sorts and good sports. Larry showed his picture on his driver’s license that resembled more of his mother’s face than his own. Pam discussed how when going to out of town sports games, a person cannot get into the facilities with cash. A cell phone is required. Too many sticky fingers may be the blame or cash isn’t good anymore. This younger generation has left me a long time ago when the telephone became useless. We old people have become just as useless. What happened? I guess the roads we traveled on have now become express highways and when we peddle as fast as we can, we still can’t keep up. See you next week, I hope!
