He walks with me and talks with me

Even though my wife’s mother left this earth many years ago and went home to be with the Lord, I can still hear her singing or humming her favorite song, “I come to the garden alone”. She was a godly woman and always displayed the sweet, sweet, spirit of knowing and talking with Jesus. She did this until the day she died at the age of 91.

What a great lesson and teaching she left for her three children and all her grandchildren. She was an inspiration to anyone that was around her and her memory lingers with all of us that knew her.

Everyone of us has had someone in our life that has inspired us by the life they lived and the walk they walked. Their faith in the Living God never wavered and their eyes were always focused on Jesus. All of us that know Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior understand the peace and contentment that these godly people had. Even though they were in their waning years of life, they knew that their eternal resting place is with Jesus.

All of us can realize where our eternal resting place will be. Just as my mother-in-law, she walked and talked with her Lord everyday of her life. The song that she so dearly loved speaks to all of us if we would take the time and understand its words.

Read the words of this fabulous song and feel the Lord’s presence with you.

“I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses, And the voice I hear falling on my ear, the Son of God discloses.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.

He speaks and the sound of His voice is so sweet, the birds hush their singing, And the melody that He gave to me, within my heart is ringing.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.”

I will say one thing about this woman of God. She was a worrier. She worried about others. I can remember one time when one of our cats was run over by a car and she worried that the cat died hungry. I can remember times when she would get up extra early in the morning and remind her son to be careful crossing hidden railroad tracks on the back roads he took to work. She worried about others, not about herself. She wanted everyone to have the peace and contentment she enjoyed and would reach out to them to call on the Lord for everything. She also had cancer and never once did I hear her complain about this disease. She did not like the treatments, but she accepted the fact that they might help her.

She talked with Lord every day, and she studied His Word. She taught her children to love the Lord and talk with Him regarding any situation.

She left a legacy that anyone could learn from. She knew and recited Proverbs 3:5 in her daily living: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart”. Our lives today would be much simpler for any of us if we would have the same outlook as my mother-in-law. She loved and trusted God and her life displayed it. All of us have a choice to put our trust in God and live in the peace and contentment He provides. All of us need to go to the garden alone, walk and talk with the Lord. He will guide us in our every need.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for talking with me. Thank you for leading me in my life. Thank you for the life my mother-in-law gave to all of us. Amen.
