What began as a young man’s question during a Cuero City Council meeting has officially become reality.
On Jan. 20 the City of Cuero held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on a new skate park, bringing Jace Patek’s vision one step closer to completion. City officials, community members, and supporters gathered to celebrate the milestone after nearly three years of planning.
The skate park will feature a 7,700square-foot riding area designed to accommodate skateboards, BMX-style bi- cycles, and skating. In addition to the riding surface, the project will include a fully handicap-accessible parking lot and covered picnic benches, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for families and spectators.
The project is being funded through a 50/50 matching grant between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the City of Cuero, with the total cost projected at $500,000.
City officials emphasized the importance of providing safe outdoor recreation options for local youth.
“This is a great thing for the kids,” said Rhonda Stastny. “It’s going to provide a safe place for them to come out for outdoor recreation.”
Mayor Emil Garza added “It gives another place for our youth to enjoy.”
Once completed, the skate park is expected to offer a positive outlet for youth while adding another recreational asset to the community. City leaders noted that the project reflects Cuero’s commitment to listening to its residents and investing in spaces that support healthy, active lifestyles.
Construction is expected to continue in the coming months. The project is expected to be complete late spring early summer.
