The Cuero High School Gobblers Cheer Team delivered an impressive performance at the UIL State Cheer Competition, proving once again that their program belongs among the best in Texas.
On Jan. 16, the Cuero squad, made up of 20 cheerleaders, competed in the Class 4A Division II category, earning their fourth finals appearance at the state level. The team finished in the top 20 out of 62 teams, a significant achievement that highlights the program’s consistency and dedication.
Like many programs, Cuero Cheer’s preparation begins on the sidelines. The team uses its game day performances throughout football season as practice, sharpening routines and building teamwork long before competition begins. For these athletes, the season does not end when football concludes.
“Competition season runs through January,” the coaching staff noted, “and our girls continue into spring sports, showing the same pride and support for other Gobbler teams.”
Head Coach Rachel Valchar emphasized the importance of the team’s continued success and the culture behind it.
“Reaching finals for the fourth time speaks to the consistency and culture of our program,” Valchar said. “It validates the work our athletes put in every single day and sets a new standard for us moving forward. The team represented our school with pride and professionalism, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Cuero Cheer’s strong showing at state reflects not only athletic talent, but also commitment, school spirit, and teamwork. With another successful state appearance behind them, the Gobblers continue to set the bar high for cheer programs across the region.
