The team’s historic season began on Nov. 2, 2025, in Rosenberg, where Yorktown placed second overall, earning a coveted bid to nationals. The cheerleaders continued their success at a competition in San Antonio, finishing second once again and further proving they belonged among the state’s top teams.

On Jan. 15, the Yorktown Cheerleaders competed at the state level, advancing to finals for the first time in school history. Despite bringing one of the smallest squads to the competition— just eight cheerleaders compared to many teams with 15 or more— Yorktown finished 12th out of 43 teams, a remarkable achievement.

Head coach Kasey Hoyer credited the team’s mindset and determination for their success. “My slogan for the girls this year is ‘Go and Make Their Mark,’ and they have surely done that,” Hoyer said. “I’m excited to see them make their mark in Florida at nationals.”

Nationals will bring together the top cheer programs from across the United States, making this appearance a historic first for Yorktown. Beyond their success on the mat, the athletes balance demanding schedules that include academics and participation in other extracurricular activities. Many are also Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Basketball players, as well as active members of FFA.

The cheerleaders are also a constant presence on campus, supporting every athletic program and helping maintain school spirit throughout the year. Coach Hoyer hopes the experience in Orlando will set a new standard for the program.

“Our goal is to grow as a team, strive for excellence, and show that Yorktown Cheer can compete at the national level for years to come,” Hoyer said.

As the team prepares to take the mat in Orlando, the Yorktown Varsity Cheerleaders are not only representing their school but also cementing a legacy that will inspire future generations.
