In the heart of our small town, Cuero, the spirit of community and teamwork shines brighter than ever. A recent project aimed at revitalizing our beloved baseball field is testament not only to our dedication to the sport but also to the unyielding support of our residents. This initiative was built on the foundation of generosity — individuals giving their time, skill, equipment, and expertise to foster an environment where baseball can thrive once again.

At the forefront of this endeavor were incredible community members, including Bobby Perez and his talented crew from Titan Electric. Their unwavering support ensured that the facilities were equipped with the necessary resources to serve as a gathering place for families and friends. Mayor Garza played a vital role, alongside dedicated community advocates like Wayne Berger, David Danish, Dr. Dyer, Coach Saenz, and Coach Fikac. The collaboration between these local leaders and volunteers underscores the strength of our town’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant sports community. Coach Karl Saenz commented “a lot of people gave their time and talent because they care about this program and what it means to Cuero. That say everything about this community. This would not have been possible without the guidance and leadership of Jeni Garrett, we can’t thank her enough.”

A special mention must also be extended to Warden Faezell and David Crabill, whose partnership was crucial in bringing this project to life. Their support reinforced the idea that working together, with a shared vision of enhancing our town, can lead to remarkable achievements. It is through collaboration and unity that the dream of establishing baseball as a favorite past-time can resonate once again within the hearts of Cuero’s residents.

The journey of revitalization was not just made possible by the hands-on efforts of these individuals, but also through the generosity of sponsors, Alamo Lumber and Energy Waste. Their contributions played a significant role in helping achieve the goals and ensure that the infrastructure would serve players and families for generations.

Furthermore, the support from Cuero’s players and their families forms the backbone of the baseball community. Their behind-thescenes efforts, whether it be through fundraising, organizing events, or simply rallying support, showcased a commitment that kept the momentum of this project alive. “So many contributed quietly— painters, tradesmen, volunteers and supporters- all working without expectation of recognition, united by pride in Cuero and it’s baseball tradition,” said Jeni Garrett, who is helping spearhead the renovations. Together, residents demonstrated that they are not just a town; they are a community that believes in the joy of sports and the connections forged on the field.

As we look forward, the Gobblers will open up the 2026 season with two scrimmages set for February 6 vs. Edna and February 10 vs. St. Joe, as well as a Longball Fundraiser on Saturday, February 7. These games will not only serve as a platform for showcasing the talent of our players but also provide a chance for families to reunite, communities to bond, and the younger generation to create lasting memories. We invite everyone in Cuero to come out, support our teams, and witness firsthand the renovations. “We’re excited to get the season started, the field and complex look amazing. The boys are ready and I feel it’s going to be a great year,” Saenz stated.
