The Yorktown High School cheerleaders have once again proven that heart and determination can rival any numbers advantage, earning a Top 20 finish at the Cheer Nationals competition held Jan. 30–31 in Florida.
Competing on the national stage for the time in history of the school, the team not only advanced to the final round but secured a 20th-place finish in the nation — an extraordinary accomplishment for a squad of just eight athletes. Many of the teams they faced fielded 15 or more competitors.
“We are incredibly proud of our cheerleaders for representing Yorktown High School on the national stage,” said Yorktown High School Principal Laura Patek. “Placing 20th in the nation is an amazing accomplishment. Their dedication, teamwork and spirit reflect the very best of our campus. They have made their mark, and now everyone knows about Yorktown.”
According to a statement shared on Yorktown ISD’s Facebook page, the milestone marks a historic achievement for the program.
“And they did it AGAIN! MADE. HISTORY. Top 20 in the NATION! From underdogs who had never been to Nationals before… to placing 20th in the entire country. Small but MIGHTY doesn’t even begin to cover it,” the district posted. “This incredible group of girls will forever be known as the first team in Yorktown history to make finals, putting our little town straight on the national map. They showed up, they believed, and they left their mark — and what a mark it is.”

The road to nationals required months of preparation, perseverance and belief. Despite being one of the smallest squads in the competition, Yorktown’s cheerleaders demonstrated that success is not measured by roster size, but by commitment and heart.
From earning a first-place finish to advance to the finals to standing among the Top 20 teams in the country, the cheerleaders set a new standard for the program and inspired a community along the way.
With their historic performance, the Yorktown High School cheerleaders have not only made their school proud but have also paved the way for future generations to dream bigger and aim higher.
