GOD first....Heavenly Father, Through Your goodness you have blessed us with so many gifts: ourselves, our time, and our possessions. Use us, and what we have gathered, in feeding those around us with love and with Your loving grace. We ask in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. Pray for those who are ill, suffering grieving, or are in harm’s way and pray for a good, good, soaking rain.

Humor Time: A hooded bank robber burst into a Texas Bank and forces everyone down on the floor, telling the teller to load his sack full of cash. On the way out, a brave Texas customer, grabs his hood and pulls it off revealing the robbers face. The robber shoots the customer withour any hesitation. He looks around and sees the teller looking at him and shoots him also. Everyone by now is scared, looking down on the floor in absolute silence.

The robber yelled, “Did anyone else see my face?” There was a moment of silence in which everyone was plainly afraid to speak. Then one old cowboy silently raised his hand without looking up said, “My wife got a pretty good look at you, and she thinks she knows you.”

Nordheim Shooting Club was the site of Dennis and Caroyln Schlinke’s 60th wedding anniversary with a host of people from around the area coming to help them celebrate. All members of their immediate family and grandchildren, and one great grandchild, were present and lots of pictures were taken as the group gathered around the couple. On the tables throughout the hall there were pictures of the couple taken on their wedding day along and with pictures of by gone days. I asked Caroyln if they ever had some disagreements in their 60 years of marriage. She said they had some dooziea. Mostly, it was damned if you do and damned if you don’t, and you should have or could have done this or that. Didn’t get any specifics but I’ll bet there was a lot of German hard headedness involved. If the truth was known, a lot of marriages had problems like that. They’re both in wheelchairs now and if they have an argument, Dennis rolls himself in the other direction. And if he’s in his recliner, he has to take whatever comes and turns up the TV volume and claims he didn’t hear a word. LOVE is like that. It’s called a happy marriage! They both claim that it was a good marriage and if you peel off all the rough edges, they’d do it all over again.

On Feb. 10, at the church parish hall, the first domino games were played. One table had a group of six playing Moon and another table of four playing the same. Some were a little rusty at playing the game but there were enough old-timers that were willing to teach and some willing to learn. We only had one loner, but she helped the rest of the group with the rules as she knew them. Everybody enjoyed a good meal afterwards.

After church this past Sunday, the WELCA Quilt & Table Runner Raffle drawing was held after the pastor’s birthday song was sung. She has now crossed the line of middle-age of 40 years. Candles were blown out and cake that her mother brought was served to those who enjoyed a delicious taste of fine lip-smacking, platelicking good stuff.

The winners of the quilts were Gary Stehling, Catrina Henry, Marsha Knight, Machelle Baumann, and Rita Sternadle. A Big Thank You to all who bought raffle tickets for this worthy cause.

See you next week.
