CRH to evaluate pain management treatment plans

Cuero Regional Hospital will be evaluating pain management plans for all patients to comply with updatd guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, according to a press release issued by the hospital.

The hospital notes in the press release that across the nation, healthcare providers are adjusting how opioid medications are prescribed in response to updated guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other federal and clinical authorities. These changes reflect a continued commitment to patient safety, effective pain management, and overall long-term health.

CMS guidelines emphasize the careful use of opioids, particularly for chronic pain, due to the well-documented risks associated with long-term opioid therapy, including dependence, overdose, and reduced quality of life. As a result, providers are being encouraged to evaluate each patient’s pain treatment plan more closely and, when appropriate, explore alternative or additional treatment options.
