Message from the Mayor

Hello my fellow Cueroites It’s been a busy two weeks. Friday the 13th has come and gone, and no one filed for any council seats up for re-election, what this means is the seats, which were refiled by the current incumbents are unopposed, thus an election in May will not be necessary.

On Feb. 10th, the Mayors Youth Council visited the Cuero Fire Department and learned fire department operations. All were amazed at the amount of money it takes to fund the fire department.

On Feb. 12th, I attended the Rise Breakfast sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Cuero Development Corporation. The event was well attended and the attendees were brought up to date on all the recent and current projects underway in Cuero. Folks were given a presentation on the future renovation of the old “The Fair” building as the new home of the Chamber of Commerce.

The City of Cuero participated in a successful blood drive on Feb. 12th as well. I was honored in donating a pint of blood to save a life.

The thunderstorms on Valentine’s Day, which had hail and strong winds, have come to the attention of various roofing contractors. Please be aware of scams sometimes associated with weather damage. If you must employ a roofing company, staying local is always a good bet.

The after-action review of the DYNO and No Prep Racing event held on Jan. 30 and 31 was held on Feb. 17th. The organizers (Wamsley Performance), the City of Cuero and First responders were in attendance. An estimated combined crowd size for both events collectively was 3000 plus spectators. The event was a success, and plans are underway for next year.

Cuero High School recently hosted a 3day baseball tournament. The event was well attended, please support your Gobbler Baseball Team, as there is still plenty of baseball left this season. The 1st Lady had a blast at the Chamber’s Freaky Friday Designer Purse Bingo held on Friday, Feb. 20. Shout out to Angie and Sara for all the hours spent putting the event together.

Saturday, Feb. 21st was busy with two significant events being the Community Garage Sale under the library pavilion in downtown Cuero and the Lace up 5K, Kids Fun Run and half marathon benefitting Lifeway Baptist Church having 129 participants from Cuero, Yorktown, Victoria, Sugarland, Westhoff, Ganado, Seguin, Shiner, El Campo, Port Lavaca, Hallettsville, Houston and Yoakum. The event was a success due to over 50 volunteers from the school, church and the Cuero community coming together and assisting in the success.

The Cuero Chamber ‘State of the County’ luncheon is scheduled for this coming Wednesday, Feb. 25th. Senator Lois Kolkhorst, State Representative AJ Louderback, County Judge Daryl Fowler, District Attorney Brain Cromeens and CEO Cuero Regional Hospital, Lynn Falcone are featured speakers. The event will be held at the Chisholm Trail museum beginning at 11:30, tickets may be purchased at the Chamber office.
