CHS golfers place in Yoakum

The competitive spirit is alive and well in Cuero,, as the local golf teams displayed remarkable skill and teamwork at the recent tournaments held in Yoakum and put on impressive performances by both the Cuero Lady Gobblers and Gobbler golf team.

The standout highlight of the events was undoubtedly the Cuero Lady Gobblers, who brought home the championship title after finishing in 1st place with a team score of 385 at the Yoakum Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Their performance exemplified the true essence of teamwork, as each player’s contributions were crucial for securing their victory.

Individually, the Lady Gobblers showed up in force as well, with stellar medal finishes that added to their team success. Julia Aleman rose to the occasion, demonstrating exceptional skill and precision to clinch the 1st Place medal with a score of 89. Close on her heels, Jewelee Arriaga delivered an outstanding performance, earning the 2nd Place Medalist title with an impressive score of 94. Completing the podium for the Lady Gobblers was Cat Chilek, who also showcased her golfing skills with a score of 98, securing the 3rd Place Medalist finish. Brianna Lopez and Kaitlyn Doughtry added to the impressive team total to secure the 1st place finish.

On the boys’ side, the Cuero golf team also made their mark, finishing 2nd overall with a solid team score of 338 at the Yoakum Invitational on Tuesday, Feb. 24th. The boys, too, exhibited remarkable talent, but it was Waylon Dietze who shone brightest among them. His strong performance secured him a Top 3 Medalist finish, rounding off his round with an impressive score of 79. Adding to the team total was Braxton Bayfus, Landon Crain, Cannon Wilson, and Teddy Traynham.

As the golf season heads into district, Coach Adam Arroyo noted “We are one month-3 tournaments to go before the district tournament. We hope to get better every week. We plan to really work on our short game and putting this month.”

Next up for the Cuero Golf Team are tournaments in Flatonia and Yorktown before heading back home on March 9 & 10.
