Yorktown Community-Wide Rummage Sale

There will be a Community- Wide Rummage Sale in Yorktown Saturday, March 7, starting at 8 a.m. Shoppers can begin at the big pavilion located at Yorktown City Park to pick up a list of all participating addresses. There are currently over 10 sales scheduled. It is sponsored by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce.

Camp Connect

Camp Connect, a mallwide event that brings local summer camps and families together to kick off planning for a fun and enriching summer, will take place at Victoria Mall March 7. It is designed to help families explore camp options while giving local programs a chance to connect directly with the community. Families can browse a variety of camp programs throughout the mall, from sports and arts and crafts to educational and enrichment experiences. The event creates an easy, interactive way for parents and kids to meet camp staff, ask questions, and discover new opportunities for the summer ahead. League of Women Voters of South Central Texas will be presenting “courageous, determined, persistent and visionary women” living in the area at the March 8 Women Making History Celebration.

Garden Companion Plants Lecture 

How certain plants form beneficial partnerships when grown closely together will be the topic of discussion Monday, March 9, when Victoria County Master Gardener Association presents the second program in the 2026 Lunch and Learn with the Masters lecture series. Master Gardener Patrick Kelly will discuss “Your Garden’s Companion Plants.” Free to the public, the program will be held noon until 1 p.m. at VEG Pavilion, 283 Bachelor Dr. Members of the public are encouraged to take a lunch break and bring a sack lunch and beverage if they wish to do so. VCMGA is a non-profit organization made up of area volunteers. It is sponsored by the Victoria County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office.

Grief Share

Yorktown Citizen and Volunteer of the Year Nominations Open 

Yorktown Citizen of the Year and Yorktown Volunteer of the Year nominations are now open. Nominations must be submitted by March 11. Brunch Buddies & Bingo for Seniors

Cuero Health invites area seniors (55+) to attend Brunch Buddies and Bingo on Thursday, March 12, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. at the Cuero Regional Hospital Education Room. Cuero Chamber Award Nominations 

The Cuero Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for two distinguished community honors to be presented at the Annual Chamber Awards Banquet on March 12. Nominations are being sought for the Larry Carter Citizen of the Year Award and the Agriculture Person of the Year Award. The Larry Carter Citizen of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, service, and dedication to improving the quality of life in our community. This award honors those who go above and beyond in serving Cuero and DeWitt County. The Agriculture Person of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the agricultural industry and has positively impacted our local agricultural community through leadership, innovation, and service. Community members are encouraged to submit nominations for individuals who exemplify integrity, commitment, and a passion for making Cuero “the way life ought to be.” Nomination forms are available at the Cuero Chamber of Commerce office, 210 E. Lindenau Rifle Club Annual Chicken BBQ 

The BBQ benefit will be held Sunday, March 15, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by presale tickets only. They are $15 and the meal consists of:.½ BBQ chicken, German Potatoes, Stuffed Cabbage, Pinto Beans, and BBQ sauce. Tickets can be purchased at Security Storage, the DeWitt County Co-op, Anders Auto Supply or you can call Janis at 361-275-4777. Proceeds are used for the preservation of the old dance hall. The last day to purchase tickets is March 13 at noon. New members welcome!

Catholic Daughters #347 Scholarship Applications 

The due date for St. Micahel’s Catholic Daughters’ Scholarships due date has changed to March 13. Catholic seniors at St. Michel’s, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Meyersville, please make note of the change.

Citywide Garage Sale 

Dowtown Cuero Main Street will host a citywide garage sale Saturday and Sunday, March 13-14. Residents will conduct garage sales at their homes, and there will be individuals selling Under the Library Pavilion on Saturday, March 13, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. City permits are waived for the event, and it will not count against the number of garage sales allowed per year. Register in person at the Main Street office.

Shiner Heritage Quilters ‘Spring into Quilting‘

Calling all quilters. Shiner Heritage Quilters invites you to participate in the 2026 show, “Spring into Quilting” scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Shiner KC Hall, 122 S. Ave. G, in Shiner, which is a new location for the show. Entry forms and general instructions can be downloaded at www.shinerheritagequilters. org, or call Darcy Curtin at 361-427-3177. Wine Tasting, Food, Fun

Wine tasting, meal, games, and silent auction — a fun night planned for Saturday, March 21, at 564 Venue located at 110 E Main St in Yorktown in support of Yorktown’s 68th Annual Western Days. Tickets are $50 each or a table of 6 for $275. Bingo style games will be played following a pasta bar meal. Have an exciting evening with family and others in and around the community while supporting Yorktown’s long time family festival. Hot Diggety Dog

A hot dog fundraiser will be held at Cuero First United Methodist Church at 210 N. Clinton St. Saturday, March 21, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit donations for missions. It will include hot dogs with all the fixings, chips and desserts. There will also be a silent cake auction and crafts.

CEU Program

The DeWitt County SWCD will hold our annual CEU program on Tuesday, March 24, at the DeWitt County Veterans Center 901 Hwy 72 E, Yorktown, TX 78164. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and program starts at 8 a.m.. Cost is $35.00 and includes lunch. TDA has approved six CEU’s for the attendees. Grief Support Group 

Meetings are at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Cuero Tuesdays, March 10, 17 and 24, at 7 p.m. All who are having a difficult time dealing with grief for the death of a loved one, friend, loss of a job, divorce, loss of health or loss of a pet you will be welcome. Grief is hard to deal with by yourself. You will find comfort and understanding. All are welcome.

Yorktown Chamber Banquet 

The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held Friday, March 27, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets available at the office are $35 for individuals and $300 for a table of eight. Formal entire encouraged but not required. 361-564-2661

Freemasons Fish Fry 

Yorktown’s Cameron Masonic Lodge will have a Fish Fry on Friday, April 3, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. with plates to go only. Cost is $15. Plates will consist of Fried Fish, Hush Puppies, Fries and Slaw. The Lodge, as always, appreciates the community’s support. Plates can be picked up at the Masonic Lodge located at 525 E Main. Tickets can be purchased from Jeff Massey, Richard Heard, Derek Brown, Rick Savage, and John Oliver.

Mt. Bethany Baptist Church BBQ Dinner 

Mt. Bethany Baptist Church will host a BBQ dinner fundraiser at the American Legion in Cuero Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m. Plates will include BBQ ribs and sausage with all trimmings for $15. Call Charles Whitfield at 361-799-6138 or Sue Williams at 361-2109798 for information.

Freemasons Offer Scholarships

Yorktown and Nordheim 2026 graduating seniors planning to attend technical school or college are invited to apply for a scholarship from Yorktown’s Cameron Masonic Lodge. Education is a key factor in the future success of not only our community but the country as a whole. The Freemasons are pleased to be able to offer further educational assistance through the scholarship program. The deadline for applying is noon on Thursday, April 9. Students should contact their respective school counselors for more information.

Yorktown Western Days Association Scholarships 

The Yorktown Western Days Association is excited to announce that applications are now open for sponsorship opportunities for graduating seniors at Yorktown and Nordheim High Schools.until April 16. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to receive support as they take the next step toward their future. Interested seniors may pick up application information from their school counselors. The Western Days Association is proud to invest in the success of our local youth and to give back to the community through this means. These scholarships are made possible through the generous support of our community and the continued success of Western Days events. Together, we are helping build a brighter future for the next generation.
