The Yorktown Wildcats hosted their home golf tournament Monday, March 2, and came away with a first-place team finish, posting a combined score of 315.
Yorktown defeated teams from Yoakum, Cuero, Odem, Nordheim, and Falls City (A and B teams). Yoakum finished second with a 347, narrowly edging out Cuero, who placed third with a 350.
The Wildcats were led by team captain Kolton Eckhardt, who shot a 75 to tie for first place overall, sharing medalist honors with a player from Odem. Kason Sullivan also had a strong showing, earning a bronze medal with a 76.
Other varsity contributors included Brody Metting with a 78, and Connor Saunders and Colton Rogers, who each shot an 81. Competing as individuals, Gunnar Hughes carded an 86, and Brayden Knostman finished with a 94.
This strong showing comes on the heels of another firstplace team finish at the Yoakum tournament, where the Wildcats also captured team gold. Metting led the way with a 78, Saunders followed with an 83, Rogers shot an 85, and Hughes added an 87. Sullivan carded a 90, while Eckhardt finished with a 95.
The Wildcats’ backto- back tournament victories highlight the team’s depth and consistency, as they look to build on the success of previous seasons.
