Gobbler Stadium played host to the highly-anticipated Jack Adcock Gobbler Relays, attracting 17 teams of track enthusiasts from across the area Thursday, March 5. This annual event is a showcase of young athletic talent and fierce competition, creating an exhilarating atmosphere for approximately 1,000 athletes.
Varsity Boys Showdown
The Varsity Boys category was filled with impressive performances, showcasing the strength and agility of the participating athletes. Camelo Perez represented his team in the 100m dash, finishing with a solid 5th place. The highlight of the competition came in the hurdles, where Bradley Hill secured a commendable 2nd place in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.09 seconds, closely followed by Jaxxon Marie, who claimed 3rd with a respectable 17.17 seconds.
Paydon Flores was a standout in the 300m hurdles, finishing in 1st place with an impressive time of 40.52 seconds, providing an exciting moment for the crowd cheering from the stands. Meanwhile, Pierce Denson showed off his skills in high jump, landing 3rd place with a jump of 6 feet.
In the long jump, Jossiah Taylor soared to victory, earning 1st place with a remarkable jump of 21’11”. Flores also demonstrated his versatility, jumping 20’ 9” to finish 5th. The triple jump saw Luke Mortiz take 3rd place with a jump of 41’ 11.5 “, while Taylor added another strong performance, finishing 4th with a distance of 42‘7 “.
The pole vault event saw Jake Janssen finish with a solid 6th place, clearing a height of 12’ 6”. In discus throwing, Conner Whitley placed 6th with a throw of 129.5 feet. The relays were equally exciting, with the Varsity Boys’ 4x200 team finishing in 4th place with a time of 1:33.43, while the 4x400 relay team secured 2nd place, clocking in at 3:31.72.
Varsity Girls Performance
In the Varsity Girls division, Elena Gomez was a force to be reckoned with. Competing in two events, she claimed the spotlight by finishing 2nd in the 400m run and securing 1st place in the 800m run with an impressive time of 2:24.63. In the field events, Ashlyn Gamez tackled the pole vault event, finishing 6th overall with a vault of 8’6”.
JV Boys Power Around the Track In the Junior Varsity Boys division, Jessiah Bacon ran a strong 200m race, finishing in 6th place with a time of 24.56 seconds. EJ Gomez showcased his sprinting speed, earning 1st place in the 400m with a blistering time of 54.88 seconds, while Prince SantaCruz finished 3rd at 56.19 seconds.
The 300 hurdles featured a strong showing from Jevan Trevino, who clinched 4th place with a time of 45.95 seconds. In the long jump, D’zayvion Bonner performed admirably, taking 3rd place with a jump of 19’ 2.5”. In discus, Turner Mayfield finished in 6th place with a throw of 104’ 8.5 “.
The relays were once again a fantastic point of competition, with the JV Boys 4x100 team finishing 3rd at 46.10 seconds, and their 4x200 team also securing 3rd place with a time of 1:36.83. The 4x400 team competed hard, finishing in 3rd place with a time of 3:45.17.
JV Girls Dash to Victory
Fans witnessed a flurry of exciting moments and fierce competition in the JV Division. The 4x200 relay team put forth a strong effort, finishing 6th with a time of 2:00.33.
In the individual events, Jaleija Jackson showcased her sprinting speed in the 200m run, finishing 5th with a time of 29 flat. Alesia Chapman was another standout athlete during the day, participating in multiple events. She secured a solid 3rd place finish in the 400m run with a time of 1:07.71 and followed that up with an impressive 4th place in discus, throwing it a distance of 79’3”. Not to be outdone, Chapman also dominated the shot put event, clinching 1st place with a throw of 34’1” In the long-distance events, Bailey Blank and Jaylee Sanchez made their marks as well. Blank finished 6th in the 1600m run with a time of 6:32.98, showcasing her stability in pacing on the track. Meanwhile, Sanchez’ performance in the 3200 run, where she finished 3rd with a time of 14:08.45, proved her capability in sticking the distance races and hanging tough against her competitors. Lastly, in the triple jump, Nayeli Waldron completed the day with a commendable 6th place finish, jumping a distance of 29’6.5”.
Overall, the Jack Adcock Gobbler Relays offered a thrilling spectacle for track enthusiasts, highlighting the talents of young athletes and fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and community among schools. As the dust settles on this year’s competition, athletes are already looking forward to next year’s relays, eager to improve and perhaps claim new personal bests.
