Spring Sports Keeping Athletes Busy

Strength in Numbers Mark your calendars for an exciting event that promises to bring intense competition and camaraderie to the forefront.

The Cuero Gobbler Powerlifting Regional Qualifiers Meet is set to take place in Kingsville on Tuesday, March 10. This event will see athletes from various weight classes come together to showcase their strength and skills in pursuit of qualifying for a spot at the State Meet. With a growing community of powerlifting followers, this event is not just about individual glory; it's a celebration of dedication and hard work within the sport. Powerlifting has garnered momentum across the country, attracting athletes of all levels who have been training, pushing themselves to their limits, and perfecting their techniques.

Among the competitors are numerous standout athletes, each with their sights set on lifting personal records and earning a spot in the next round of competitions. Congratulations are in order for those who have already made their mark in the field, including: - Lawson Hahn(275lbs)-Johnathan Perez (220 lbs) - Noah Weghorst (242 lbs) - TJ Seals (275 lbs) - Jackson Martin (242 lbs) - Ignacio Villanueva (198 lbs) - Stran Gaitan (132 lbs) - Connor Serece (165 lbs) Hayden Leist (220 lbs) - Jaxton Dolan (114 lbs) - Connor Thigpen (181 lbs) - Matthew Jones (198 lbs) These athletes have demonstrated sheer determination and skill in their respective weight classes, and are making history for Cuero High School with 12 competitors.

On Par for Success The Cuero Green Team participated in the Flatonia Golf Tournament held on Wednesday, March 4, showcasing impressive skills and competitive spirit of regional golfers. With 20 teams participating, this tournament not only served as a platform for individual players to shine but also highlighted the importance of teamwork as they vied for top honors.

One of the standout players from the tournament was Weldon Dietze, who delivered a stellar performance, carding a score of 76 that earned him a well-deserved bronze medal. His achievement not only elevated his personal standing but also contributed significantly to his team's overall performance. Teddy Traynham and Cannon Wilson also made their mark during the event, tying for fifth place with scores of 80. The level of competition was fierce, but both players stayed focus on the goal. Their collective efforts were pivotal in pushing the team closer to the top.

As for the overall team performance, the boys' team secured a commendable 2nd place with a total score of 321, finishing just ten strokes behind the champions, Bellville. Braxton Bayfus shot an 85 and David Leinen a 96 adding to the total score.

The following day, Thursday, March 5, the Lady Gobblers took their turn on the course, competing against 14 other teams in their respective tournament. Leading the charge was Cat Chilek, who delivered an impressive performance, finishing in 4th place with a score of 93, securing a strong finish for the Lady Gobblers. The support from Makayla Cardenas, Katelyn Daughtrey, and Joy Gajewesky combined to form a competitive atmosphere, with the team collectively earning a 6th place finish overall with a score of 474.

Basketball Honors

Congratulations to our Cuero Gobbler and Lady Gobbler Basketball teams who received several honors for their 2025-2026 season. Top honors for Defensive MVP went to Elena Gomez, First Team All-District Honors went to Bailey Staten, David Leinen, Paydon Flores, Elias Munoz, and D’zayvion Bonner. Second Team All-District went to Demi Morrow, Laelah Mendiola, and Camelo Perez. Honorable Mention honors went to Avery Orozco. Academic All-District honors for the Lady Gobblers went to Bella Staten, Nayeli Waldron, Orozco, Katie McElroy, Emoni Cooper, Mendiola, Morrow, Hope Cooper, Gomez, and Staten.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

The Gobblers took a trip to Franklin to participate in the Franklin Baseball Tournament, March 5-7. The Gobblers faced some tough competition throughout the tournament heading home with a 1-3 record. The first game the Gobblers faced Gatesville tying up the score, at three, in the bottom of the third thanks to a triple by Will Scott and a single by Eli Garrett. Gatesville broke it open in the top of the fifth to go back on top 5-3. Despite 9 hits in the game for the Gobblers, the sixth inning put the game out of reach when Gatesville scored 6 runs with a final score of 5-11. A similar thing happened in game 2 on March 5, as the Gobblers faced Lampasas with a loss of 5-12. Garrett led the Gobblers with 3 hits in three at bats. In the Franklin game, Garrett led the team again with 3 RBI’s, going 2 for 2. Scott and Collin Ferrier collected two hits each as well. Despite the 5-15 loss, the Gobblers regrouped and pulled out a big win against Bay Area Christian 6-3. The Gobblers got on the board first when Ferrier singled, scoring two runs. Elijah Renteria and Will Scott added hits in the second to score two more. The Gobblers will take on Karnes City at Whataburger Field on Monday, March 9, before heading to Goliad on Friday March 13.
