GOD first...Heavenly Father, we thank you for the many gifts and blessings You have given us. In so many ways we continue to be showered with Your love and tender mercies. It is so reassuring to us that when we think things aren't going right, our faith in You and Your loving kindnesses are ever present to comfort us and sustain us as we ask for help for one thing or another. As we ask for inspiration to help others less fortunate and pray for the comfort and healing power of people who are ill, suffering, grieving or are in harm's way, help us to be deliverers of good will to one another and inspiration to the ones that need it. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Joke Time: Two old maids were walking down a country rod when they heard some noise. Looking, they saw a hen running away from a rooster. As the rooster got closer, the hen cackled defiantly and rushed into the road. A passing car ran over her. One of the maids said with pride in her voice, 'Did you see that? She'd rather die!' Something to think about. An optimist looks forward to marriage. A pessimist is a married optimist.

The Nordheim Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser was well attended on Saturday March 8, despite the pouring rain which was long awaited and gratefully received. It did not seem to deter the 500-plus people who enjoyed a delicious chicken BBQ meal.Theorganization wishes to thank the citizens of Nordheim as well as our neighboring communities for all of the support shown. Thank you for purchasing meal tickets and for donating prizes for Bingo and Brown Bag Raffle. Without your continued support, our organization would not be able to continue to serve our community. Lastly, to all of our volunteers who came out to help with all the work that accompanies these events, thank you. It takes a village, and Nordheim is truly blessed to have a great one!

It's amazing what a good rain can do. So far, while living on this side of town, I only received one inch of rain. Not really complaining. Just glad to have had that much, but where some of the main showers came, had reports of over five inches from Sunday to Wednesday last week. Now, this Sunday, we will have a 90-degree high followed by Monday and Tuesday of having near freezing temperatures. My only complaint this week is; while putting on my socks, my arms suddenly got shorter, or my legs got longer.

History from 25 years ago: Jim Gualt of Westhoff told a story, while living in Auga Dulce, he and some young friends, greased the railroad tracks as a prank. As the train left the station under full power with a full head of steam, as it hit the greased part, it slowed to a stop still spinning the engine big wheels. They went to a movie in Alice and when they got back, the train only traveled less than a mile. Not to be out done, Boobie Hilbrich and Adrian Mueller, as kids, brought up the subject of turning over outhouses during Halloween. Even told of turning over one with a man in it. Westhoff, in those days, was a closely knit town and whenever anything happened, the whole town knew about it. Those were happy days or so they say.

Kaffee Klatch was entertaining again this week as a lot of stories were retold. It seems that Smokie and Larry have a kinship through marriage. Janice looked back in time and found that her grandparents and Larry’s wife, Sharon’s, grandparents were linked. It was a long stretch of kinship. Larry and Smokie are closer friends now. It makes the coffee taste better too. See you next week.
