Pet shelter donations - what a blessing!

Pet shelter donations - what a blessing!
Ronnie Dietz, President of Hochheim Prairie Insurance Branch 2 recently visited the Pet Adoptions of Cuero shelter. His agency again blessed the local nonprofit pet rescue and shelter with a generous donation presented to Linda Anzaldua, PAOC President. Two little schnauzer pups that are up for adoption were happy to pose for the check presentation. The shelter is honored by the continued support from the community and Hochheim Prairie. Pet Adoptions of Cuero has long been certified as a 501c3 nonprofit entity, and it is proud of the reputation it has earned in helping the surrounding area with abandoned, unwanted, injured, diseased, and 'just plain dumped' dogs and cats.

The ones that no one wants, the litters of pups and kittens that come from unfixed pets, the ones that a family can no longer afford, the ones that are no longer cute puppies, the ones that have not been socialized, the ones that have been mistreated -— all these orphans are accepted and given second chances at PAOC on a space available basis.

The original plans for the shelter were to house 10 dogs and 10 cats or kittens. Now in 2026, PAOC's average on site inventory ranges from 20 to 36 cats and anywhere from 25 to 40 dogs and pups. Thanks to donations and sponsorships additional pens, runs, cages and kennels were created to accept this major influx of EXTRA pets. Hence the financial donations are helping PAOC take on, care for and house 3 times as many pets as originally planned.

And with the extra volume of shelter pets on hand, the vet bills and vet expenses have, of course, tripled as well. PAOC requires each pet to be completely vetted, given all shots, defleaed, treated for parasites or any ailments, microchipped and spayed or neutered. A certificate is given to adopters for pets too young to be spayed or neutered - so that expense is covered as well. A very modest adoption fee most often only covers about one half of the actual vet invoice for each pet.

Monetary donations or gift cards are welcome and cherished, and the majority of these funds go directly to cover vet bills. Donations of pet food, treats, chewy toys, collars, leashes are also welcome at any time as well as cleaning supplies, detergent, paper towels, trash bags etc. are also high on the 'needed' shelter list.

The shelter staff loves surprises and some of the nicest pet shelter donation drives have come from school groups, community organizations and individual children with lemonade stands or custom- made bracelet sales. Also high on the cherished list is volunteers pitching in wherever needed. They are true treasures to PAOC.

The staff at PAOC is in awe of the communities near and far who have come forward and supported the organization for the last 15 years. We are inviting everyone to join in and help Pet Adoptions of Cuero continue its dedicated goal of giving God's furry creatures a second and maybe even a third chance. Thank you one and all for making a difference — a big difference with your love, care and support.

The shelter is located at 407 US Highway 183 South, Cuero and the mailing address is PO Box 1073, Cuero, TX 77954. PAOC is open every day of the year from 8 till 12 noon and afternoon adoption visits are available by appointment 361-2438550.
