If someone was on Courthouse Street, they may have wondered what was happening at First Presbyterian’s “Church Without Walls” Pavilion in Cuero on Friday night, March 6.

It was not a wedding reception or fund-raising gala, but a festive barbecue dinner provided by the church for Mis- sion Presbytery, the larger body to which the church belongs.

About 150 pastors, ruling elder commissioners, and guests met Friday and Saturday, March 6th and 7th, in Cuero to worship, conduct business, and enjoy fellowship with member churches from San Antonio, Austin, Corpus Christi, many cities in between, and as far as Kerrville and the Rio Grande Valley.

The men of First Presbyterian prepared the brisket and chicken, and all members pitched in to provide delicious sides and desserts.

Making the dinner even more enjoyable was the music provided by the Rev. Kevin Boyd, pastor of First Presbyterian, Dan Williams, a member of First Baptist, and Allen Floyd from Houston. This combo played popular and gospel favorites and added an extra element of cool to the breezy evening. And all was done “decently and in good order,” which is famously the Presbyterian mantra and way.

During the Saturday worship service, after a greeting from Rev. Peter Thaddeus of Grace Episcopal Church and president of the CAMAL House board, an offering was given to support CAMAL House.

'It was a joy to host this exciting meeting of Presbyterians from all around this part of Texas,” the Rev. Boyd of First Presbyterian Church Cuero said “It was also a great benefit to Cuero. The offering was given to CAMAL House and the amount will come close to funding an entire month of the hunger needs in our city.'
