Golden day on the greens

The Cuero High School golf teams put on an impressive show at the Cuero Golf Tournament, highlighting their talents. With the competition featuring twelve and seven teams respectfully from various area schools, both the boys' and girls' squads delivered strong performances as they took to the course on Tuesday March 10 (girls) and Wednesday March 11 (boys.)

Girls Team Excels

The Cuero Girls golf team made its mark, finishing in 1st place with a collective score of 402. Cat Chilek was the standout golfer for the day, earning the 1st place medalist title with her impressive round of 87. Following closely was Jewelee Arriaga, who secured the 2nd place medal with a score of 92, showing that the girls' team is also packed with talent. The team had solid scores from Julia Aleman with a 108, Makayla Cardenas 115, and Katelyn Daughtrey 122. The top four scores comprise the team total.

Competing against six other teams from Industrial, Yorktown, Runge, Yoakum, Edna, and Falls City, the girls faced stiff competition. Edna finished in 2nd place with a team total of 441, marking a solid performance but unable to eclipse the Cuero girls' impressive 402.

Boys Team Dominates the Field The Cuero Boys A team took home the 1st place trophy with an outstanding team score of 329. Leading the charge was Waylon Dietze, who played exceptionally well, finishing 1st individually with a score of 80. Cannon Wilson also contributed significantly to the A team's victory, securing 2nd place with an 80 on the scorecard as well. Other key players included Teddy Traynham, who shot an 86, Braxton Bayfus with a score of 87, and Caleb Keller finishing up with an 83. The depth of team talent was evident, as each member played a crucial role in achieving the team’s winning score.

In addition, Cuero also showcased their B team, which finished in 5th place overall with a team score of 351. David Leinen led the team with a solid score of 85, followed by Landon Crain at 92, Landry Aleman at 94, Ace Arroyo, and Conner Whitley, both finishing strong with scores of 87. Their performance added more than just points; it demonstrated the growing depth and commitment of Cuero's golf program.

Yorktown snatched 2nd place among the boys with a competitive total of 341, proving to be a strong rival throughout the tournament. The event featured teams from schools in Yorktown, Woodsboro, Runge, Falls City, Industrial, Yoakum, and Edna, making it a fiercely contested matchup.

Both the Cuero boys' and girls' golf teams have proven themselves to be formidable competitors, delivering winning results! Next up for the Cuero golfers is the Edna Tournament on March 23 & 24 before topping off the season with district April 1 & 2.
