4th Annual Lavaca River clean-up scheduled

The public is invited to participate in the Fourth Annual Lavaca River Clean-Up on Saturday, March 28, 2026, in downtown Hallettsville.

Volunteers will meet at 8:00 a.m. at Hallet Oak Gallery for checkin, a safety briefing by Chad Kinsfather, Director of Environmental Services for the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority, and distribution of supplies before dividing into teams.

The clean-up will begin at 9:00 a.m., with teams working simultaneously at the County Road 1 Poor Farm Bridge and the Highway 77/90 Bridge along the Lavaca River. Volunteers will collect trash from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., followed by a group photo at 10:00 a.m at the 77/90 Bridge.

“This event brings people together for the common goal of cleaning up the Lavaca River in just 45 minutes,” said Mieko Mahi, president of the Hallet Oak Foundation’s Friends of Lavaca River group. “Volunteers can meet us at 8 a.m. at the Gallery for their supplies or join us at either bridge site at 9 a.m. Spectators are welcome—bring a chair!”

Participating organizations include the Friends of Lavaca River and Hallettsville Cub Scouts Pack 223, along with other community volunteers.

Sponsors for the event include Inteplast Group, the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and R.L. Bordovsky of Town & Country.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate. Volunteers should wear boots, long sleeves, sunscreen, and bug spray.
