A Message from the Mayor

My Fellow Cueroites: I would like to start off by thanking the City of Cuero Electric Department for their early morning response to downed power lines last week when the high winds came through Cuero in the wee early morning hours.

The whole crew was able to contain power outages to a small number of customers and make repairs in rapid time. We are truly blessed as a city to have such dedicated professionals, keeping our infrastructure (water, electricity, wastewater and streets) in good repair.

On March 19, I accompanied our city manager Wayne Berger to the city’s newest water well on San Antonio Street. The water well is the city’s fifth well, ensuring the city has running water for decades to come. The well is equipped with the latest technology along with a power generator should we lose power — we will still have water. The well was paid for with grant money.

The first meeting of the Hometown Harvest committee was also held on March 19, this will be the 7th Hometown Harvest dinner on Main Street in Cuero. The menu promises to be delicious as in years past. The event is scheduled for Monday April 27, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and proceeds to go to community service organizations.

I practiced throwing a baseball last week in preparation for throwing out the first pitch on Tuesday, March 24, at the Cuero/Kennedy high school baseball game. I will read a proclamation honoring 80 years of baseball in Cuero. Former members from Cuero High School who went on to play professional baseball will be in attendance.

March 19 was a busy day for me; I finished the day by attending the Texas Municipal League Region 11 Quarterly meeting in Beeville Texas in the evening. Councilman District 2 Terry Glover and our wives accompanied me. The topic of discussion was ground water reuse, which is a huge concern in Texas, due to drought conditions and continual growth in population.

The city has gotten complaints of walkers in the cemetery area letting their pets relieve themselves on gravesites, please pick up after your pet if you utilize the cemetery as a walking area. Signs and doggy waste stations will be placed at entrances to the cemetery for your convenience.

Have a great week!! More to follow.
