Yorktown Elementary will stage its annual “Watch Me Grow” program for new PreK and Kindergarten students enrolling in the 202627 School Year on Friday, April 17, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
School Principal Stephanie Zigmond said the roundup event is designed to welcome incoming students and their families into the Wildcat community.
“At Yorktown Elementary, the journey of learning begins long before the first day of school,” Zigmond said. “This event plays an important role in helping both parents and children feel confident and excited about starting school.” Zigmond said parents will get a chance to meet students, tour classrooms and ask important questions about expectations, routines and how to best support their child’s learning. For children, it provides a gentle and positive introduction to their new environment — helping ease first-day nerves and build early excitement about school, she said.
“The roundup is more than just an informational meeting; it’s an experience,” Zigmond said. “Families are invited to explore the campus, connect with staff, and even participate in hands-on activities that give students a glimpse of the fun and learning that awaits them.”
Zigmond added that the early interactions help build trust, familiarity, and a strong home-to-school connection.
“It sets the tone for a welcoming school culture and ensures that every new Wildcat starts their journey feeling supported, prepared and excited to grow,” Zigmond said. “Yorktown Elementary is ready to partner with families every step of the way, planting the seeds for a successful and joyful educational experience.”
All families interested in enrolling in PreK for the 202627 School Year must complete a paper application. Applications are available now until March 31 at the Yorktown Elementary front office. For information, contact Destiny Sims at 361-564-2252 Ext. 3 or email dsims@yisd. org
