Lady Gobblers triumph in exciting finish

The Cuero Lady Gobblers faced off against the Navarro Lady Panthers in an always intense matchup at home Tuesday, April 14. In a Senior night game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end, the Lady Gobblers emerged victorious with a final score of 14-13, securing their place in the upcoming playoffs.

The evening began celebrating 3 Seniors on the Lady Gobbler team: Caroline Kubesch, Bailey Morrow, and Julianna Cox. All three young ladies have made an impact on the Lady Gobbler program. The game continued that energetic atmosphere from Senior Night, quickly turning into a back-and-forth battle. In the first inning, the Navarro Lady Panthers started the night off with a home run and a sacrifice fly of their own, showcasing their offensive capabilities early in the game. The Lady Gobblers jumped out to an early lead with a score of 4-2. Key hits from players like Laelah Mendiola, who led off with a solid single, and Natalie Taylor, who contributed with a double, helped put runs on the board. Demi Morrow added to the tally with a score on a productive sacrifice fly by Kubesch.

As the second inning rolled around, the Lady Gobblers kept their momentum going. Natalynn Milliorn stepped up to hit a hard single that brought Mendiola home, extending Cuero's lead to 5-2. The third inning was where the Lady Gobblers truly showcased their power at the plate, tacking on an impressive six runs. After three consecutive walks loaded the bases, Bailey Morrow launched a grand slam over the left field fence that electrified the crowd. Mendiola and Milliorn hit singles, and another sacrifice fly from Cox brought Mendiola across the plate, solidifying a commanding 11-2 lead.

However, the Navarro Lady Panthers refused to back down. They mounted a fierce comeback, scoring four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, narrowing the gap to just one run at 11-10. The tension was electrifying as the Lady Panthers attempted to steal the game from the Lady Gobblers.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cuero responded valiantly. Milliorn led off with a single, and Cox received her second intentional walk of the night. Demi Morrow delivered a line drive single to center, and Kubesch added another sacrifice fly to increase the score to 14-10, pushing the Lady Gobblers’ lead once more.

With only one inning remaining, the Navarro Lady Panthers ignited a final push, scoring three more runs in the top of the seventh, closing the gap to a nail-biting 14-13. The excitement peaked as the Lady Gobblers fought to maintain their slim lead. In a dramatic conclusion, Demi Morrow fielded a ground ball at shortstop, with runners on first and second, and fired it to first base to secure the win, ending the game with a collective roar from the home crowd.

Individually, the Lady Gobblers saw stellar performances, with Mendiola and Demi Morrow both hitting 4 for 5 and 3 for 3 at the plate, respectively. Bailey Morrow shone brightly, leading the team with four RBIs. Milliorn claimed the win on the mound, pitching 6 innings and striking out 8 batters, contributing significantly to the team's success.

After the Lady Gobblers celebrated their hard-fought win, they are now ready to move into the playoffs, with their next challenge against either Pleasanton or Floresville. The Lady Gobblers finished 2nd in District play and are waiting to see where to take their talents next. Fans are looking forward to another exciting chapter in this season as the Lady Gobblers continue to chase their championship dreams.
