For several years the Yorktown ISD Elementary School Student Council has chosen the nonprofit animal shelter Pet Adoptions of Cuero as their community service project, and this year they went above and beyond.

They put out the word that donations were needed — pet food, pet treats, cleaning supplies and anything and everything needed to run and care for a shelter with an average of 40 to 60 dogs and cats daily in their inventory.
The Yorktown ISD Student council members, teachers, staff, friends, families donated over 200 items and also custom made over 50 dog toys.
Crystal Whitten and Tifani Nicole headed up this project and have instilled in their students the importance of giving back and caring about homeless animals who all deserve a second chance.
