The Yorktown Kitty Kat and Wildcat track teams competed at the District 31/32 AA Area Meet on April 18.
District 31-2A, consisting of Kenedy, Pettus, Port Aransas, Refugio, Skidmore- Tynan, Three Rivers, Woodsboro and Yorktown, and District 32-2A, consisting of Agua Dulce, Ben Bolt, Freer, La Villa, Premont, Riviera Kaufer and Santa Maria, all competed for the chance to advance their athletes to the Regional Meet.
For the Kitty Kats, a total of six athletes advanced. Senior Hayle Russell had another banner day, as she broke her own school pole vault record by vaulting 12’0” and added Area Pole Vault Champion to her resume.
Sophomore Trinity Flores also broke her own record in the triple jump. Early in the track season, Flores had broken the record set by junior Claire Person (35’10”) with a jump of 36' 3”. At the area meet, she jumped 36 '5 ' to place second and advance to regionals, along with Person who placed 3rd.
Sophomore Palyn Koopmann advanced in both hurdles, placing 1st in the 300m Hurdles and 2nd in the 100m Hurdles.
The Kitty Kat 4x200m Relay, consisting of Person, Paige Deleon, Lorelai Gowens and Flores placed 4th to advance. The Kitty Kat 4x400m Relay, consisting of Person, Deleon, Koopmann and Flores finished in second place to advance. In the Varsity Girls team division, the Kitty Kats finished in 2nd place to Refugio.
For the Wildcats, senior Ryan Knostman, who currently holds both the Yorktown Discus and Shot Put records, placed 1st in the Shot Put and 2nd in the Discus to advance. Sophomore Randen Zuniga placed 4th to advance in the high jump.
The Region IV, Class 2A Track Meet will be held in Javelina Stadium at Texas A&M-Kingsville
Ryan Knostman placed 1st in Shot Put and 2nd in Discus.
Trinity Flores broke her own record in the triple jump and placed 2nd in Relay.
