On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Yorktown Kitty Kat volleyball team hosted the Luling Eagles. The bout was a back and forth match.
“We had to overcome a lot of adversity that match from changing the rotation to our libero getting shaken up and having to be out sets 3 and 4, I was proud of the way the girls have handled quickly adapting to change and still being able to compete,” Head Coach Ashtyn Henkes said.
The win came down to five sets, 19-25, 2521, 25-21,,27-29, and 15-10. The final set resembled the others in the beginning with the score seesawing between both teams. The Kats were up 4-2 when the Eagles went on a four point run, overtaking the Yorktown squad.
Henkes’ called a timeout and regrouped the team. Yorktown won the following possession, and scored a second point to tie the set, 6-6. With Gracie Stehling at the service line the Kats reclaimed the lead, scoring four points.
The Eagles called a timeout in hopes of breaking the Kats momentum, but the Kitty Kats prevailed. Yorktown went on consecutive runs. Following Stehling’s performance, Braleigh Dodds served the game out, 15-10.
The Kitty Kats will be looking for redemption against Runge at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10 with start time at 5:00 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 13 the Kats will play at home against Louise with the game scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
