GOD first...Heavenly Father, we thank You for a generous soft rain that satisfied the dry earth here in our community this past week. And thanks for answered prayers. You truly bless us so many ways even when we don't deserve them. Guide us in our quest in helping others, even in the simplest of ways. We are needing assurances to do the right things when sometimes we really don't really know how. Help us, Lord. We ask in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. Pray for those who are grieving, ill, suffering, or are in harm’s way.

Joke: Mama mouse and baby mouse were outside a cave one early day before sunrise when a bat flew by. Baby mouse exclaimed, 'Look, Ma. An Angel!'

Another one: Two hillbillies were discussing their family trees and arguing about how far back they can relate to ancestry when one said to the other, 'I can trace my family tree way, way back.' The other one said, 'Well maybe so. Taint hard. Only two things live in trees, monkeys and birds, and I don't see any feathers on your rear end.' That's how the feud began that lasted many years.

We thank GOD for answered prayers as we had a generous rain of 2 and 1/2 inches this past week. It was a slow rain with a minimum run off. It sure did pick up the smiles of everybody and no one came close to complaining. The grass, trees, and weeds perked up too. Give Thanks in your prayers.

The Nordheim Museum Market Days on April 25th were a huge success as street vendors were all over Broadway Street selling their wares, lots of music, singing, a Karaoke Contest, and all sorts of activities the whole day.

We've got a lot of things coming up in May. On May 11th we will be having the Vance Frosh Memorial Scholarship Fund Drive with chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Plates to go will cost $15 each. Pam or Betty will have the tickets. Tickets are presale and the meals can be picked up at the Nordheim Fire Station.

May 15th to 17th of May, we will be having our famous Tractor Pull, BBQ Cookoffs, Saturday night free dance, concession stands, and inside the hall, there will be plenty of Hamburgers, Chili, and delicious homemade ice cream. and much more.

In June, we will be having the Otto Pfeifer Family Reunion at the Nordheim Shooting Club Hall. As the date approaches, we will be having more details in the paper.

With all the history of the Texas Gulf Coast being written, I remember as a young man listening to lawyer Jimmy Crain's father telling me that his father or grandfather, who was a surveyor, was riding a horse surveying land on the coast when a band of cannibalistic Krankua Indians surrounded him. It was told that he quickly dashed into the inlet bay and he and his horse swam to one of the outer islands and escaped capture. It's amazing how memory of such things keeps coming back.

25 Years Ago: Drilling continued on the Lola Fuhrken and Westerfield properties and trucks with oilfield equipment really tore up the road going to those properties because of the recent rains. Certainly, here in Nordheim, we have benefited by Lola, with her good fortune, into doing good in our community. She is one swell person who has donated so many things to the Shooting Club Hall, Nordheim School, church, and park. She faithfully attends meetings and works hard when there is a need to help wherever she can. There are others who show up to help, such as Hella Magee, Anitia Huck, Lola Fuhrken, and so many others, one doesn't have to ask them to help, they just show up. With their help, they know how much tea to make, how much coffee, or how many beans it takes to feed X amount of people. There are so many others, both men and women, who are just as dedicated and are the backbone of our community.

We have lost so many of these great individuals throughout the last 25 years. They left a lot of great memories, impressions, and stories. With great admiration, young people are carrying on these same traditions by volunteering whereever there is a need anywhere in the community. See you next week.
