Dear Editor, When I found out that our school district adopted a $5 million deficit budget, and the most commonly used solution is to raise taxes for myself and for the rest of us made me think I need to get more involved. Sadly, money was once again removed from the 'rainy day' fund which should be for emergency use, therefore holding off the state from controlling our school business. That fund balance is now at a 20year low.
By getting more involved I have heard so many frightening concerns and issues from numerous people that have been involved with our schools in one way or another. There is a real outcry from this community. These citizens and I feel our school board members have chosen not to listen and certainly not respond to the major concerns brought to their attention. Are each of you aware of the $1.9 million dollar 'oversight' in the 2023-24 finances that had to be carried over into the 2024-25 budget?
We need to repair damage done to this district financially and otherwise. I know many of you can say I don't have a child in school, and I don't either, but no one would like to pay higher taxes. More importantly we should all be concerned about the future of this school district and the education for the youth of Cuero.
