Cuero High School graduate Zachary Jarrett Banda, 25, was killed in an automobile accident in Victoria Saturday, April 18, in the late afternoon.
The three-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles happened in the 8000 block of U.S. Hwy. 87 North, according to news reports. The semi-truck traveling south reportedly struck a pickup truck driven by Banda who had his fiancé with him and a mid-size automobile with two people in it. Both passenger vehicles were traveling north.
Banda was the only fatality, and he died at the scene. The other three injured who were all in their early 20s were transported to area hospitals.
Banda was a champion football player in high school, according to his obituary. He worked at Dow Chemical, and he was a certified ERT member for rescue and for industrial and interior firefighting. At the time of his passing, he was working towards a lead fire squad position as well as an EMT certification.
