As the baseball season winds down, Cuero Gobbler fans are left reflecting on a valiant effort that ultimately fell short. In a home-and-home series against the Floresville Tigers, the Gobblers faced defeat in both games, concluding their playoff journey with scores of 2-5 and 6-14.
The first matchup took place on April 29 at Tiger Field in Floresville. The Tigers set the tone early, striking in the bottom of the 3rd inning with two solid hits that brought home two runs. However, the Gobblers were not ready to back down. In the top of the fourth, they answered back when Christian Ferrier hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Will Scott to score after being hit by a pitch earlier. Unfortunately for Cuero, Floresville swiftly expanded their lead, tacking on three more runs in the same inning to make it 5-1.
In the subsequent innings, the Gobblers made a determined effort to close the gap. They managed to score again in the fifth, thanks to Scott's single that brought in Lincoln Orosco, who had reached base with his own hit. Despite their efforts, the game concluded with a 2-5 loss for the Gobblers. Orosco stood out offensively, going 2 for 4.
