My fellow Cueroites: It’s been a busy 10 days. Yesterday, Saturday May 2, four members of the Mayor’s Youth Council and I attended ‘The Great Texas Airshow’ at Joint Base San Antonio Randolph. The trip was a field trip for an introduction to the United States Air Force. Highlight of the show were aerial demonstrations by the F-22 Fighter and the United States Air Force Thunderbirds.
On Friday May 23, a tree plaque at the intersection of West Reuss and Indianola Streets was dedicated to Dr. H. Wayne Adicks, a lifelong friendofCuero’sHeritage Museum. Thanks to Amber Fitts, Museum Curator, for reading kind words about Dr. Adicks.
The 7th Annual Hometown Harvest Dinner was held on Monday, May 27. The Mayor’s Youth Council bused tables and assisted in table preparations. I would like to thank the Mayor’s of Yoakum and Yorktown, who accepted my invitation to join Cuero in an awesome meal and fellowship. Thank you to Mayor Carl O’Neal (Yoakum) and Bill Baker (Yorktown).
On Tuesday May 28, the First Lady and I participated in a hard hat tour of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum expansion project and attended the museum’s opening of the Lonesome Dove Photography exhibit. A presentation on the making of the Lonesome Dove mini-series was enjoyed by those in attendance. Thank you to Mr. Rick Bluntzer, Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum B.oard of Directors Chairman for hosting the First Lady and I.
Wednesday May 29 saw two send offs to baseball playoffs by the Lady Gobblers at 2:30 p.m in the Brookshire Brothers parking lot headed to Wimberly to play Kerrville and the Cuero Gobblers Boys Baseball team at 3:30 p.m. headed to Floresville.
Congratulations to the Lady Gobblers, who will be moving on to the next round of the playoffs. Thank you to the Cuero Gobbler Baseball team on a remarkable season.
On Thursday May 30, an unveiling and ribbon cutting was held at the Hell’s Gate bridge for the new kiosk for the Guadalupe Valley Paddling Trail. Thank you to the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority and the Texas Parks and Wildlife for your attendance and support. Shout out to Angie and Sara from the Chamber of Commerce for hosting the ribbon cutting.
A review committee will soon meet to review the City Charter, which is reviewed every five years. The committee will make recommendations on the current charter for city council review. The rain has been much needed, please stay safe. More to follow!
