The Commissioners Court re-approved the interlocal agreement between DeWitt County and the City of Yorktown for 24-hour law enforcement services at its regular meeting on September 9.
The City of Yorktown pays $262,500.00 per year ($21,875.00 monthly) for law enforcement services through the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office.
“The county is accepting the responsibility of criminal law enforcement,” Sheriff Carl Bowen told the commissioners. “The responsibility of city ordinance enforcement remains the responsibility of the City of Yorktown.”
Other items addressed by the court include the Mueller road closure for bridge replacement and a county road inventory.
A bridge replacement on Mueller Road will mean a road closure, starting on Thursday, Sept. 12. The work should be complete by Christmas, according to Precinct 1 Commissioner Ryan Varela. He said the project has been needed for 10 years, and it’s taken this long to work out the funding with the Texas Department of Highways (TxDOT).
The commissioners also approved the current County Road Inventory, but discussed submitting updates over the next year to the TxDOT map.
Commissioner James Pilciek said he has been working on updating road maps in his precinct, using a GPS to get more accurate readings. He said in 2002 when he first participated in road updates they weren’t able to input accurate results. Hopefully, over the next year all precincts can input better data.
