History buffs recall Mexican-American War

History buffs recall Mexican-American War
DeWitt County Historical Commission Military Chairman Joe L. Sheppard lectures to history buffs about the Mexican-American War at the Veterans Memorial in Cuero Municipal Park May 8. The war began in 1846 after Texas became the 28th state in the United States. The outcome established the Rio Grande River as the border between Mexico and Texas and resulted in the United States gaining western territory to the Pacific. An arrangement of flowers was placed at the park to honor soldiers who fought in the war. The Veterans Memorial was a 2018 project of the Historical Commission. Courtesy Photo
