My Fellow Cueroites: Enjoying the rain, I know some plans are ruined due to the rain, however the rain is beneficial and necessary!
The City Council participated in a budget workshop on Monday, May 18. The city manager and the finance director have been busy visiting with the city department heads to compile a proposed city budget for fiscal year 2027.
On Tuesday May 19, the Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) held their end of year gathering, closing out the 2025-26 year term. The year was very busy and productive for the youth council. The students participated in the Christmas in the Park hot chocolate event and bused tables at the Hometown Harvest dinner as community service projects. In addition, the MYC participated in four local field trips and one out of town field trip. The MYC this year was comprised of seven Seniors and six Juniors. The MYC seniors were the initial members of the inaugural year. I am so proud of each one and wish them well in all endeavors.
I presented each senior a hardcover book on military leadership entitled “Stars and Stripes,” a book project I was involved in and was a co-author. The authors, Major General (retired) Bradley Spacy and Chief Master Sergeant (retired) and Dr. Jose Lugo Santiago, all drove from San Antonio to address the youth council and personally autograph each book. In addition, earlier in the day we signed and donated a copy of the book to the Cuero Municipal Library and the Cuero Heritage Museum for the local author section. General Spacey and Chief Santiago loved Cuero and plan on coming back during Turkeyfest. Shout out to both my colleagues for taking time out of their busy schedule to drive to Cuero and share words of wisdom with Cuero’s youth.
Shout out to Ms. Vjollca and her staff at La Bella Tavola for providing the pizza and drinks to the MYC. We met in the patio area and enjoyed delicious pizza and fellowship, Cuero and the MYC are blessed to have such wonderful and supporting businesses in town.
Later in the evening I handed out completion certificates to the Cuero Citizens Police Academy (CCPA) Class #4 participants for completing a 16-week course with10 graduating. On Wednesday, May 20, the CCPA toured the Stevenson Unit, the group learned the mission of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and toured the unit facilities, as well as a housing area. Shout out to Unit Senior Warden Michael Feazell for approving the tour.
Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day. Please take a moment to reflect on all who gave their lives for the freedom we all enjoy. Memorial Day is the most expensive day in our nation’s history, bought and paid for by the blood of service men and women.
Please be safe!! More to follow.
