Otto was shopping at the Mall when he met his friend, Emil, standing outside the jewelry store. Emil noticed a small, giftwrapped box in Otto's hand. 'What have you got there?' asked Emil. 'It's Leonas' birthday tomorrow,' Otto replied. 'When I asked her this morning what she wanted for her birthday, Leona said, “Oh, I don't know, dear. just get me something with lots of diamonds.” 'So what did you get her?' Emil asked.
Otto said, 'I bought her a deck of cards.'
Nordheim News Gilbert Pargmann Emil was filling up at the gas station. He said to Otto, 'I bet these awful fuel prices are goin' to go even higher.' Otto replied, 'It won't affect me. I always put in just $10 worth.'
Last Saturday, May 16, in Nordheim at the Shooting Club Hall after 6pm, there was a crowd of people who came from all around to witness all that the Texas Truck and Tractor Pullers Association brought with them to demonstrate with great excitement, some old, some new, and the drivers of them. When combined in the show, it was a World Class event. The people who attended this event weren't disappointed by what they saw. Thanks to Cllint Metting, his membership in the TTTTA, his supped-up John Deere, and the folks who helped make all this possible, the show was a complete success. If you were one of the hundreds of people that came, you certainly got your money's worth. The stands were full, and there were people standing on both sides of the track trying to position themselves near the fences to get a good look. The weather was good and let up long enough to keep the track in excellent shape, along with the equipment and personnel, to keep the event moving.
The members of the Nordheim Shooting Club, volunteers, and dedicated performers are all to be congratulated on the effort to make so many things come together in an orderly fashion as they did this past weekend. To the BBQers, vendors, and the organizers, WOW!!!!! I guess I could go on and on. But after all is said and done, we want to thank the public for coming and participating in all the events. The rains that have come since and before are a topping on the whole affair. Thank you everybody.
Because of being old and careless, I have to explain to those who exercise at the Wellness Center in Cuero who haven't seen me there lately the reason for my absence. I was feeling so good that I took my weed eater and cut down a small patch of grass burs that were starting to come to a head. As I had already finished, I was getting tired and decided enough was enough and was walking toward the house and tripped on a small pecan limb. I fell flat on the ground, tore some skin on my arm, broke a rib on my right side. I just laid there on the ground for a while, wondering what else I should have done, got up by myself, walked into the house with blood all down my arm, cleaned up, took a shower, and then tried to bandage my arm by myself. Called my daughter, Roberta, my favorite nurse, and she came by quickly and we got it all patched up. It could have been worse, but it did set my exercise back a couple of weeks. Damn (I thought a few more expletives but didn't say them), and suffered through my pain with Tylenol Extra Strength.
I did attend all the events at the Hall this past weekend and made it to church and Kaffee Klatch. When you are a hard-headed dutchman with determination and grit, I have to be optimistic and pessimistic at the same time. I'll either wake up dead in the morning or wonder why God is keeping me above ground all this time. Soon as I can, I will be back at exercise, if the creeks don't rise. Let it rain, let it rain. See you next week.
