Pet Adoptions of Cuero is on the verge of changing its name or at least adding a by line to read “Puppy Adoptions of Cuero.”
The local shelter already had its fair share of teen, adult and senior dogs that need and want forever homes. But in just the last 10 days our puppy count is already up to 15. Adding to this count are the 9 pups from an abandoned, mild mannered, semitrained blond German Shepherd mix momma dog. Cora was left on a country road here in Cuero, obviously dumped because she was very pregnant.
Luckily, a kind soul took her in and within days her pups were born. There are a couple of all white pups and mostly black and black and white pups that appear to have been fathered by a black lab.
PAOC will have to 'raise' them for at least another 5 weeks. This means shots, vet tests, flea treatments, microchipping and parasite treatments and lots of time cleaning, caring and socializing the litter.
The vet expenses to take on 10 dogs all at once is overwhelming. Then at maturity, PAOC will cover the spay and neuter expenses. But because PAOC was able to take in the litter - we are keeping the pups from becoming a pack, a nuisance searching for food and most importantly seeing they get fixed before making more puppies.
Donations would be welcome and new adopters would be too!. They are going to be medium-size dogs like their mom and anyone wanting the perfect summer pet, come meet CORA's pupsters!
