If someone came to you and ask you for the definition of love, what would you say? I am sure there would be varied answers and all of them would be true.
I was reading an article about Albert Einstein, the German born theoretical physicist. Born in 1879, Einstein is widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest and most influential physicists of all time. He is best known for developing the theory of relativity and made contributions to the theory of quantum mechanics. He was a brilliant person and is often referred to as a genius.
Was Einstein a Christian? There are many writings that proclaim he was not a Christian nor was he an atheist. Some say he did believe in God because some of his writings indicated he did.
I read with interest one of his letters published by his daughter in the 1980’s. There is also some contradiction as to whether this letter was written by him, but the words that are contained in it, really have some sound meaning. I have copied a portion of this letter, and it reads; “There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us. This universal force is LOVE.
When scientists looked for a unified theory of the universe, they forgot the most powerful unseen force. Love is Light, that enlightens those who give and receive it. Love is gravity because it makes some people feel attracted to others. Love is power, because it multiplies the best we have, and allows humanity not to be extinguished in their blind selfishness. Love unfolds and reveals. For love we live and die. Love is God and God is Love.”
If this letter was written by Einstein, I would believe that he knew God but as a scientist, just as many scientists of today believe, there is no God, and all the world and existence is based on science.
As for me, I believe in the Living God and His Holy Word, the Bible. In 1 John 4:16 we are told by the apostle; “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
For those of us that are Christians, we understand that God is love and He is our only hope for an eternal home. Many people give varying opinions of what love is and where it is derived from. There are varying opinions on whether we have an eternal home to go to or not, but for me, I believe in God and my hope is to be with Him when I leave this earth.
There are many brilliant people in this world and their theories are great for our educational purposes. Just as Einstein gave us great intellectual information, he also believed that ‘Love is God and God is Love’.
The greatest question is “What is your definition of Love and where is it derived from?” Prayer: Thank you, Lord for your presence and your Word. Thank you for loving me and giving me life here on earth. Amen.
