GOD first...Heavenly Father, our time here on earth is short and nothing is forever except Your love. Although our time is short, we are thankful for the gracious gifts You bestow on us through Your never ending love. When we trust in Your love and understanding, our lives become complete. Anything that is challenging us is like a small grain of sand compared to the greatness of Your power. This power, from birth through death, gives us strength to overcome any challenge that life confronts us with. Be with us, comfort those who are grieving, heal their hearts, and accept Your Holy Power, as we pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Pray for the ill, suffering, grieving, or are in harm’s way.

Humor Time: A crook was about to go on trial for killing, in self defense he claimed, his neighbor. His lawyer was advising him, 'Be calm, I'm a terrific lawyer. I'll prove this to a jury that you were in Hong Kong, China, when the crime was committed. I'll put on two doctors who'll prove that you were temporarily insane. I'll pay off two of their witnesses. I have two school buddies on the jury, and my wife's uncle is the judge. Meanwhile, try to escape.'!

Our hearts are saddened this week by the passing of Myrtle Janssen who was one of the originators of Kaffe Klatch here in Nordheim. She and Jr (Otto) were always a mainstay of our community. Her great memory of the names of kinfolk, both your’s and mine, were something to behold. If a name of someone who had lived in Nordheim some time ago came up, you could rest assured she knew all about them and who else is akin to them. At one time, she could remember who made the most homeruns of the Astros Ball team, who was their best pitcher, and all sorts of details. Just ask. When her husband would play in any baseball game, whereever, she would be in the stands, faithfully cheering the team on. There are so many stories that she related to us, and we have been truly blessed by her presence as she didn't miss her Thursday mornings at Kaffee Klatch. Even though she lived in Yorktown, she faithfully attended Church and any function here as she considered Nordheim her home. I could write a book about this amazing lady as she has left an impact in the hearts of all those around us. Lord, we give You thanks for her amazing life as You have gained another wonderful spirit.

Gilda Mae Remmers Rogge is another Nordheimer who has passed away this week. Her story and her life is a story to behold also. She grew up here in Nordheim, graduated from Nordheim School and married her sweetheart, 'Bubba, the threelegged dutchman.' After marriage, they moved to Taft and had a business with Bubba selling and repairing TVs and appliances while she kept records and took care of their children. They moved to San Antonio and bought a house and raised their family there until retiring and moving to Runge several years ago. Bubba (Arlan) passed away several years ago in Runge. Their children were Wanda, Sharon, Wade, and Craig. One thing I remember about her mother, Ellie Pargmann Bues Remmers, was that her mother was born on New Years Day, 1900, and never had to remember how old she was every year she celebrated her birthday. Today, she would have been 126 years old. I still have an upright frost free Frigidare freezer we bought from them, at a discount, of course, since being first cousins. And it still works. While they lived in San Antonio, they had a pet skunk. So many great memories. Thanks Gilda. God loves you and so do I.

This week, we celebrated the death of Mary Ann Sternadle of Sarco. It was my son-in-law, Randy's mother and Rita's mother-in-law's mother. The services were in Refugio this past Saturday.

When God has plans for us and those around us, we never know what is in store for us each day. Each day is among many wonders with many blessings and as each day passes, our prayers of thankfulness in gratefulness, are with our spirit. His love is our refuge, and we are saved through His Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
