A Message from the Mayor

The American Legion honored Memorial Day on Monday, May 25. The Keynote speaker spoke about the Texas Hero’s Museum in La Grange. I highly recommend a visit to the Museum. We must ensure Memorial Day continues to be revered and honored for generations to come.

On Friday May 29, Congresswoman Monica Dela Cruz attended a meet and greet event at the Bahnhof Café. As Mayor, I welcomed her and her staff to Cuero. Afterwards, she visited the Daule School and was brought up to date on the project by Mr. Paul Harper. The Congresswoman was optimistic funding would be available in assisting the project.

On Saturday May 30, the American Legion conducted a BBQ Chicken fundraiser, which was a huge success. Thank you to all who bought tickets. Many comments were given.

The City of Cuero is submitting nominations for the Texas Municipal League’s upcoming conference in San Antonio in November. Submissions will cover the Mayor’s Youth Council, the Citizen’s Police Academy and the Street Tree dedication program. Wish us luck.

On Tuesday June 2, I was interviewed by Channel 25’s Maclavio Perez on my 48 years of public service, serving my Nation (United State Air Force), serving the State of Texas (Texas Department of Criminal Justice) and currently my community, the City of Cuero.

Budget workshops are still being planned with the City Manager and Finance Director coordinating the details for the FY 2027 City Budget.

Today June 7, I drove two Mayor’s Youth Council boys to the University of Texas in Austin to attend the American Legion Boy’s State 2026. I attended Boys State in 1977, and what an honor it was. I have been invited back this coming Friday, June 12 to attend closing ceremonies for this year’s session. With the attendance of these two boys, the local American Legions (Cuero/Westhoff) have sent six individuals to Boys State in the last two years. In addition, two girls are currently on the waiting list for Girls State next week at Texas Luthern University in Seguin.

The Chamber of Commerce is still accepting Fourth of July parade entry forms, I am asking retailers, organizations and businesses to show your pride and wish our Nation a Happy 250th Birthday.

Have a great week! More to follow.
