The new 2024-2025 4-H year is off to a GREAT start! We would first like to thank everyone that attended our Ice Cream Social last month. We had a great turn out, loved talking to the community about 4-H, and enjoyed plenty of yummy ice cream from the Green Cow Creamery.
Don’t forget that new 4-H enrollment and re-enrollment is occurring right now. All youth and adult volunteers must re-enroll annually. The enrollment fees are as follows: $25 for 4-H members, $10 for Clover Kids, and $10 for Adult Volunteers. You can enroll at https://v2.4honline. com/#/user/sign-in. As a reminder, 4-H age is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade through 12th grade. Clover Kid age is 5 years old and in Kindergarten through 2nd grade.
There are 43 different 4-H projects to choose from in the Texas 4-H program, which means showing an animal is not your only option! Our projects are based on and around Agriculture and Livestock, Family and Community Health, Leadership and Citizenship, Natural Resources, and STEM. We are always looking for adult volunteers to share their knowledge and expertise with our youth. If you have a passion for something and want to share it with the youth of De-Witt County, please contact Candace at the Extension Office to talk about being a registered volunteer for our 4-H program.
The month of September has been and will continue to be a very busy month! We currently are accepting new stuffed animal donations as part of our September 4-H Community Service Project. These stuffed animals will be donated to Cuero Hospital for their Stuff the Truck event to benefit the EMS program. You may drop off donations at the Extension Office.
We also have two new 4-H project groups starting this year which are robotics and sewing. Our Shotgun, Archery, and Rifle groups have kicked their year off with their first safety meetings and practices, and our Livestock Judging kids are competing in their first round of contests. Cuero Livestock Show will be hosting validations for commercial heifers, steers, and breeding heifers toward the end of the month.
If you have questions over any of our 4-H projects, club meetings, or CLS validation dates, be sure to contact the De-Witt County Extension Office at 361-275-0816 or email the DeWitt County 4-H Agent, Candace Williamson, at candace. [email protected]. edu.
