GOD first... Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing us in so many ways. Your grace and love are so powerful. Werejoiceinknowing that You are on our side at all times. Help us Lord when our faith and strength weakens. We ask in the name of our dear savior, Jesus. Amen. Pray for those who are grieving, ill, suffering, or are in harm’s way.

I had never heard of a Document of Intentions before but actually saw one that a man had, ( I forgot his name), at Myrtles' funeral this past week at the Shooting Club Hall reception. The name on the document was that of John Heinrich Schmidt, born in Germany on the 12th of February in 1880. He signed that document at the age of 21 before the Dewitt County Judge, being an immigrant. He landed in New York City. He had to swear he was not a polygamist or anarchist, or something to that effect. I could not find it in the Dewitt County Records. But these types of documents have been revised several times since this one in 1901.

Humor Time: A man who on occasion would stop at the local bar, arrived home to a waiting wife. She put out her hand and said, 'All right, hand over your pay check.' The husband reached into his pocket and pulled out a wad of money and handed it to her and after counting it, she said, 'Where is the rest of it?' He said, 'I bought something for the house.'

'Oh, that's nice. What did you buy?' she asked. 'A round of drinks,' he said.

Some say this really happened here in Nordheim back during when there were two churches, Catholic and Lutheran. There was a big protest before dinner on a Sunday and after church. They claimed that when the train blew its whistle, during the sermon, it woke everyone up.

Also, another one. When the train would come through town about 4 a.m. on its way west, the train would blow its whistle and wake everyone up. It was called the 'kinder train.' Some claimed that that's when most of the many Nordheim children were conceived. At that time in the morning, it was too late to go back to sleep and too early to get out of bed. Don't have explain that one.

Heard yesterday, one of my classmates passed away. Thelma Linhart Baker was her name. She owned a dress shop somewhere east of Dallas and south of Interstate 20. She had a brother , Walter, who has preceded her in death and he lived in Victoria. I can't remember if she had any children, but her husband passed way many years ago. We were even cousins somewhere down the line. I will always remember her for the many times, she, during some of the harshest difficulties she encountered, she always, with great determination, sprang back. Besides being badly injured by a bull one time, she also survived a tornado that left her and her dog lying on the street outside her completely destroyed trailer house. During recent illness, she survived several bouts of COVID. As of this moment, I have no further information. Not too many of us are left from a graduating class of Good ole Runge High, 1953 The street of Broadway in Nordheim is decorated with the American Flag on both sides thanks to the Friends of Nordheim who put them up.

Our Koffee Klatch met back at our usual place in the Parish Hall with an unexpected visit by Kermit and Doris K with a big box of donuts that was consumed very quickly. Coming into Nordheim this morning, Thursday, they saw a bright rainbow, as did several others, out west of here. Can't remember the last time we were blessed with one, but we didn't get any rain out of it. The weather news says we will get another batch of rain soon. One of the main discussions was about the screwworms that might soon come to our area. A couple of the young people weren't even born during the last time it was fought by ranchers. Us old timers vividly do remember. If an animal was injured or just being born, the larva was hatched out in the wound and the magots would eat live flesh. If not treated, the animal would not survive, and that includes deer and other animals. If one is a rancher, one will have to check his animals every day as larvae can do a lot of damage in a week. It's something that can't be vaccinated for.

I was also involved in a wreck last Monday while crossing from a lane by McDonalds in Cuero around 8 a.m. I was going to the inner lane, going south, when another person was going into the same lane when we met. We both pulled over to the side of the road next to the back of the Dewitt County Jail. No fenders were involved, only my right bumper and the lady's driver side doors received scrapes. As I got out and walked over to observe damage, I noticed the emblem of her brand-new Mercedes Benz on her hood. Her car was a rental car. In my many trips across that same intersection, in the last two and a half years of going to the Cuero Health Center Gym, I never thought something like this would happen. No one was hurt and we both didn't receive any citations as the Cuero Police did the investigation. We both were lucky. Like some say, it could have been worse. See you next week and drive carefully as I intend to do with more intensity.
