The Yorktown High School Cheerleaders returned home with an impressive collection of awards and valuable experience after attending their first UCA Gameday Masters Camp at the Legends Event Center in Bryan-College Station, June 1 - 4.
Unlike traditional cheer camps, the UCA Gameday Masters Camp places a strong emphasis on gameday competition skills, helping athletes develop their crowd-leading techniques, sideline presence, and overall performance in a competitive gameday environment. Throughout the week, the Yorktown cheerleaders embraced the challenges presented to them, refining their skills while building confidence and teamwork.
Their hard work and dedication paid off as the team earned numerous honors during the camp. Among the team's achievements were a Leadership Award for the mascot, the Mushie the Mascot Award, a 3rd Place Overall Game Day Routine finish, the Most Improved Award, and the prestigious Superior Trophy, which is presented to teams that earn Superior ratings in every evaluation throughout the camp.
Several Yorktown cheerleaders were also recognized individually. Mascot Rylie Krueger, Avery Martin, Paige Deleon, Alaina Guzman, Amaya Luna, Kyleigh Garcia, and Marissa Gea were selected as UCA All-Americans, an honor awarded to athletes who demonstrate outstanding cheerleading skills, leadership, and spirit. In addition, Paige Deleon, Evelyn Merks, and mascot Rylie Krueger received the Pin It Forward Award, recognizing athletes who positively impact others through encouragement and leadership.
The camp experience not only provided recognition for the team's accomplishments but also helped prepare the cheerleaders for the upcoming season. Through daily instruction, evaluations, and competition- style performances, the Wildcats strengthened their abilities while developing the confidence needed to lead school spirit throughout the year.
Yorktown High School Cheer Coach Kasey Hoyer praised the team's effort and growth throughout the week.
“This camp challenged our athletes in a true gameday competition environment, and they rose to the occasion,” Hoyer said. “I’m proud of the growth, leadership, and determination they showed all week. These awards are a reflection of their hard work, but the confidence and experience they gained are what will carry us forward this season.”
